Steiff is one of the oldest and most prestigious plush toy companies in the world, founded in 1880 in Germany thanks to the vision of Margarete Steiff, an extraordinary woman who, despite being confined to a wheelchair due to polio, transformed her passion for sewing into an empire of softness.
It all began with a small stuffed elephant, intended as a pin cushion, which children tended to use as a toy. From there, Margarete took inspiration to create a collection of stuffed animals, giving life to an affectionate language made of bears, cats, horses and imaginary creatures. In 1902, her nephew Richard Steiff designed the first articulated teddy bear, which would become the famous Teddy Bear, helping to make Steiff an iconic brand.
