It was 1846 when Filippo Mazzetti (1816-1855) founded his first distillery in Montemagno for the production of Grappa. In those days, the pomace, from which grappa has always been distilled, was mainly considered a waste product of the wine production process: due to the negligence and unpreparedness of many winemakers, it was often not stored and selected in the best way, as is done today, in order to be distilled expertly.

With the advent of the new century, the Mazzetti distillery, which had moved and expanded to Altavilla Monferrato, has evolved into one of the most prestigious and award-winning grappa distilleries, both in Italy and abroad. Currently, Chiara, Silvia, and Elisa, the seventh generation, are pleased to present their enviable collection of single-varietal grappas, all from Piedmont.

The pomace of these single grape varieties, distilled with care in discontinuous steam-heated copper stills, and the passion of the family are the only ingredients of Mazzetti d'Altavilla Grappa. From the most traditional to the most refined and aged, these grappas, like those produced by Filippo, represent all the aromas, biodiversity and traditions of Monferrato and Piedmont.
